LIVE PERFORMANCE

On this page you will find details of:

  • sample references from organisations for whom we have performed live in the past

You can also listen to our demonstration tracks, which can be played as streaming audio. All these come from the second album, and show what our live performances will be like.

What We Offer

We play Latin American based acoustic folk music -- both arrangements of pieces from Latin America and original compositions which have the flavour and feel of the continent, but which have influences from English, Celtic and European musical traditions. We do songs and instrumental pieces, and between us play some 18 different instruments covering strings, wind and percussion.

The range of performances we can offer includes:-

Full Concerts:  (2 x 45 minute sets): We have performed concerts at the Ridings Arts Centre, Winterbourne (Bristol) (1997)and at the Newnham & District Music Club in the Forest of Dean (1996,1998 and 2004).

Festivals:  Bristol International Twin Towns Festival (1994); Ashton Court Festival, Bristol (1995); Midsomer Music Festival, Somerset (1995); Bristol International Festival of the Sea (1996); Priddy Folk Festival (1997).

Solidarity events: Over the years we have played at a wide variety of events connected with Latin American solidarity in the Bristol area organised by groups such as Amnesty International, Bristol Central America Week Committee, Bristol Cuba Solidarity Campaign, Bristol International Twinning Association and OXFAM.

Charity events: An event organised by prisoners at Leyhill Open Prison, and held in the prison for the West of England School for Children with Little or No Sight (1999); and a concert in aid of the Cotswold Care Hospice held in Gloucester Cathedral (2001).

"Theme" evenings:  These have often been based around a meal with accompanying music. We have done these in pubs and hotels, in small cafes and restaurant, and in community centres and they have all proved to be very successful.

Bristol Círculo Español (Spanish Circle) meetings:  A group which meets monthly to practise Spanish and which has speakers at most meetings. We have performed at their AGM several times.

Corporate events:  Wine Tasting at Coombe Lodge, Blagdon (1998); Independent Travellers World Shows in Bristol and London (1997 & 1998); Latin American Travel Show, Bristol (1999); Mexican evening at the Blunsdon House Hotel, Swindon (1999); The Mall Shopping Centre, Bristol (1999); Mexican evening at the Esporta Health Club, Bristol (2000).

Workshops for schools:  Please see details of these on our Workshops page.

Weddings:  We have played at a variety of weddings and wedding receptions in and around Bristol.

Short Performances: are possible at pro rata rates.

References

" I take much pleasure in recommending the Latin American musical duo DUENDE. They have played on many occasions at Amnesty International events and have always provided excellent entertainment and music, speaking particularly for the people of Central and Latin America."

Amnesty International

"The Latin American folk duo DUENDE came highly recommended and we were privileged to have them perform at the Festival. Their acoustic music -- guitar and a wonderful selection of pipes and flutes -- has influences from all over South America. A sought after and unusual sound presented with Roy and John's talented and colourful flair for entertaining audiences large and small. DUENDE are a must for your next event and shouldn't be missed!"

Bristol International Festival of the Sea

"DUENDE always produce a poetic and moving sound which instantly catches the audience's attention and proceeds to emotionally involve them in the pieces....I would recommend DUENDE to any organisation or group of individuals as a professional, reliable and friendly outfit."

Bristol Link with Nicaragua

"DUENDE have given us two concerts with their guitars and traditional Latin American instruments which have proved highly popular and, thanks to the interesting commentaries, have considerably enhanced our musical knowledge."
